Global populations will continue to densify in coastal settings increasing the exposure and vulnerability to human and nature-induced hazards. In response, disaster risk reduction and management techniques have grown from singular events to synergize with more advanced built environment design standards. These standards directly respond to acute and chronic hazards such as extreme storms and sea level rise.
