Real-Time Flood Forecasting

05 Mar 2025
Seminar Theater 1
Heavy rain, coastal storm surge, coincident peaks, and more can cause severe flooding. Analyzing flood risk accurately to determine the extent, duration, and likelihood of occurrence is beneficial for communities and emergency responders. Prior to initiating a flood analysis, the appropriate approach based on the intended application should be evaluated to meet the community's goals and needs. Analysis approaches vary from conventional 1 D hydrology & hydraulics (H&H), 2D overland flow, or hybrid 1D/2D modals. This presentation will focus on the flood analysis for multiple communities using varying approaches for real-time flood forecasting. The discussion will focus on modeling techniques, concepts, and visulization methods that can be leveraged for communities to prepare, mitigate and recover during flood events.
