Communities around the world have worked to train volunteers and find the resources they need to plan, prepare, survive and recover from ongoing disasters. Miami Beach has several resources ready for those disasters.
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may occur where they live.
CERT trains volunteers in basic disaster response skills, such as:
- Fire safety
- Light search and rescue
- Team organization
- Disaster medical operations
- Disaster psychology
- CERT and terrorism
CERT training was created in Los Angeles in 1985 and has been adopted by FEMA as a national training curriculum.
