National Hurricane Center presents an Interactive Hurricane Simulation
During a hurricane, storm surge has historically been associated with the most number of direct lives lost. What is storm surge, and how can storm surge be so deadly?
The National Hurricane Center will showcase a virtual reality simulation that will show storm surge from inside a house. Participants will see a hurricane approaching, water rising from storm surge, and damage from storm surge.
The idea of 6ft, 9ft or even 15ft of surge is so abstract to a lot of people so through accurately visualising this using the immersive qualities of virtual reality, it will help the public abide by evacuation orders from emergency managers.
